Happy Spring to you and thank you to all the volunteers who came out to give our beach in Fish Hoek a spring clean. Before we started setting up for the cleanup, we were greeted by a pod of whales that were jumping around in False Bay. š Wow what a sight and some extra motivation to get our beach cleaned up.
We kicked the event off at around 9 am and we were joined by some friendly nature friends from the Guardians of the Deep and SANParks honorary rangers. Also Maxibin volunteers were on site to get rid of those nasty cigarette butts.
We found a lot of microplastic along the tide line and close to the dunes. This month we also saw quite a few pieces of plastic cutlery that was lying all over the beach...those things should be forbidden. š The promenade was cleared off cigarette buds by Maxibin volunteers and they handed out free butt bags for the smokers, no butts about it!
We are so happy to have such a great team with volunteers that tackle different areas of the beach. Fish Hoek beach is approx. 1,5 km long, so we need all hands on deck to keep our beach pristine. You can find some images of our weekend on the beach below, wow what a day! We are still thinking about the whales! š So spoiled guys!
Thank you to all the planet warriors out there, keep up the great work!
Next Fish Hoek Beach Cleanup is on Saturday, 5 October, 9am - 12pm. Everyone is welcome, bags and gloves will be provided.
Thank you,
Joana & AJ
