We had an incredible World Ocean Day 2024 on Fish Hoek beach with an amazing community from all over Cape Town. Thank you to the Guardians of the Deep, SANParks, SANParks Honorary Rangers, Clean C and Maxibin for your support and THANK YOU to all the volunteers that rolled up their sleeves for a beach cleanup that truly made a difference. Well done for keeping our beaches clean and our seas pristine! š
We started the day with a community beach clean up along Fish Hoek beach. The swell brought in large amounts of plastic and we filled our bags quickly. Our volunteers were raking the microplastic that stretched all along the tide line and left a clean beach behind. It was inspiring to see that with a bit of teamwork we can have a massive impact on our shoreline. The dedicated team of Maxibin filled a bottle with all the cigarette butts on the beach and the walkways and left a clean playground for the kids.
The Guardians of the Deep presented a beautiful display of South African marine life with find from the ocean and educational books for kids. Afterwards we played their racing game "Racing like animals from the MPA (Marine Protected Area)" and we just loved everyone waddling like penguins over the beach. Such a fun and clever group, well done Sally and team!
We ended our event with getting wild - yes, we did a community ocean dip! Cold at first but then lots of fun enjoying the ocean together!
Thank you to everyone who was a part of this amazing day, you are a planet warrior! Keep it up! š
